Try doing a few more exercises to strengthen the upper back... that will take the pressure of the shoulders and protect them when you are thrown... reverse flies, bent over row, lat pull downs, narrow grip pull downs. Also, stretch the chest. Most shoulder pain is caused by the chest muscles pulling the shoulders too far forward... add impact to that and the shoulders will be in trouble!

I hear you on this one, not just now but previous injuries prevented me from about a year of sports it was the most mentally painful time of my life. Ironically though I developed incredible balance on one foot though, because I had a badly broken ankle with about a whole leg cast for over 8 weeks, and after that healed I'd like to say I came right back stronger but I didn't. My leg looked like a tooth pick but after lots of physical therapy I returned full stride and moved on. Since then I try not to take anything for granted. I could quote a few light at the end lines or joy wouldn't feel good if it wasn't for pain but there's no doubt injuries suck no question about it just be smart about it.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, Nishi, I'm all about HIIT. Especially, as it gets warmer now, I'm going to hit the Penn track for sprint-jog intervals. Except I usually do shorter ones than what you mention. I sprint 200 meters, jog 200, repeat. I find that I can't sprint for a minute. It just turns into a hard run, and it's really important to keep the intense part of interval training REALLY intense.

Good luck!

Have you thought about including HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) as part of your cardio? I feel that for me it works a lot better for Judo training than straight running...I usually sprint as fast as I can for about a minute, then jog for the next 3...rinse and repeat.
